Aegyptus April 03 - 3 Asar Priests

 

I think I got all three of these at the Croc booth at some GenCon or other. I had good intentions of finishing all three at the same time years ago and primed and started the painting process. But then I got stuck on what direction to take and they sat for way too long. But I've powered through and I really like the results. 

First up is the Priest of Ptah, with pyramid power attack action... 

Next is this cool Asar Priest that I can't remember which God he serves (maybe just a 'whichever god you want' priest). 

And finally, this Priestess Amun was the biggest stumbling block to finishing these 3 priests. I got to a certain point and froze with indecision about how best to finish her. I think she's ended up on a pretty good place...

And here we see the 'Priest Team' confronting the Sleazy Merchant and one of his guards (from Forge of Ice).

Two Assassins- Aegyptus April 02

Both of these guys from the dark underbelly of Aegyptus have been partially painted for far too long (this is a common problem I have). Well now they're done and ready to ply their viscous trade on the tabletop. 

First up is an assassin from Dark Fable who was not very inspiring until I started working on the other guy. He's pretty straightforward but turned out okay.

Next is the Typhon Undead Assassin from the Nightmare Lords set by Crocodile Games. He doesn't look well but he also doesn't specifically look like a mummy so he could see work among the living who need someone to sleep with the fishes. I like how his cloak turned out even though it's just a bunch of browns.

Aegyptus April 01 - Asar Harbinger, Basti Assassin, Drunken Tethru

Each year, for some number of years now, I try to focus on WarGods minis (from Crocodile Games as well as other similarly themed miniatures from other companies) during an extended "WarGods Minis Month" that's actually more like two months. It starts around mid-August and goes until the end of September or thereabouts. I'd like to claim it's based on the ancient Aegyptian calendar or phases of the moon or something, but it's really just all whims and painting inspirations (and miniature needs for GenCon gaming in Croc events).

Well no more! I've made a resolution to split up WarGods Minis Month into an #aegyptusapril and an #olympusoctober with an option for a second Aegyptus month in August. I encourage others who have unpainted WarGods of Aegyptus minis to use the #aegyptusapril on the various social platforms when they paint stuff during the month. I only use Instagram and Facebook and most of those pics will be the same pics I post here in more wordy posts but not everyone checks out this blog.

Without further ado- let the painted Aegyptus goodness for April begin!

First up is a Basti assassin known only as 'the Gentle Breeze.' This guy is a nasty piece of work who will shoot arrows at anyone for the right price. I'm working on stats for him as a skirmish character over at the WarGods Skirmish Blog.

Next is a conversion I've been trying to come up with for years and years- Hoethet VII the Drunken Swordmaster. This is the heir to the great Tethru Swordmaster Hoethet's legacy. Sadly he has fallen into drunken wandering after some tragic events in his life. That said, he's probably the greatest living swordsman in Aegyptus at the time after the Aten Heresy. Another character for skirmish games who will have stats at the WarGods Skirmish Blog soon. The booze sloshing out of his flask is simply some built up UV resin.

Finally we come to a Freebooter miniature that has been partially painted for way too long. This is one of the Amazons from that game. When I saw this mini I knew it would make a good Asar Harbinger of Sobek. No conversion work at all just painting. 

And here we have Nefarsebek with the Sebeki Priest to show how big she is next to a Sebeki guy.

Forge of Ice February Finale- The Cyclops

And just like that, February's over and we've got a finale for the Forge of Ice February stunt event.

From the recentish Eye of the Cyclops Kickstarter, one of the eponymous Cyclops minis. This is the unarmored Cyclops (my favorite of the two so far). I went with rather basic colors for him and  he turned out okay (not much fanciness to work with when he's simply wearing a loincloth).

And, bringing the Forge of Ice February full circle, here's the Cyclops with the massive Shrine of the Cyclops (the first mini I finished for the event).

While February is done, that doesn't mean I won't keep painting Forge of Ice minis (heck, I've got more Okroi on the way to finish up the caravan). They won't be the main focus here until NEXT February but they'll still get some attention.

The 2nd Pterroman - FOI Feb

I didn't have a spark to paint either of the cyclops figures so spent a day getting the last 3 Forge of Ice minis assembled and based (the other 2 Pterromen and the last Cult Guard with a shield). It was an odds or evens die roll to decide which of the last two Pterromen would get painted and this guy won.

Tilhabar "diver from the clouds" is a more brightly colored pterroman than the first. Each one will have a  different color scheme because they're so cool and I really like the variation- pterroman civilization has long since surpassed the mundane repetitive individual coloring that lesser species seem to thrive on.

Here's a closer look at the markings on Tilhabar's back. 

His base is simply some liner paper stuff that totally looks like old cracked paving stones when painted up.

Here we have Tilhabar facing off with the first pterroman Kappetu for dominance. I really thought the first one was my favorite until finishing off this second one, and the third one is probably going to be just as favored!

And here Tilhabar is exerting his mesmeric power upon the hapless guard. What horrible things will he force the guard to do?

Okroi Pack Animals - Forge of Ice Feb

Next up for the Forge of Ice February event are these wonderful Okroi pack animals. I simply love these things and painting them has led to plans for more to make a caravan.

I wanted to paint them for a long time but never got the right paint scheme to spark the process. After finishing the first Pterroman I realized what way to go with these dinosauroid deer. I've had a unicorn partially painted as a 'zebracorn' on the painting table for over a decade- I finished the stripes on one side but was discouraged to finish the other side. So that led to the idea of stripes for the Okroi. I think they came out great.

This second one is just as beloved as the first. While the first one has white "boots" on the front legs I decided this one should get a white splotch on the forehead. It helps them each have their own personality.

Here is a comparison of the Okroi with some other Forge of Ice animals. The Skull Pig is huge anyway, but these Okroi are dwarfed by the monstrous boar. The Azorian Lion would surely get a nice meal if it were able to catch one of the Okroi.

And here are the Okroi with some humans. The Sleazy Merchant is pleased that his latest shipment has finally arrived..
