Corinthian Hero - Mandokus

Continuing Ægyptus April, we've got an Olympus mini. Oh well.

I have at least 1 phalanx of Corinthians and this hero/ He's a fine figure, but I wasn't terribly excited to paint him. Once I realized his helmet is similar to a Mandalorian-style helmet, I was a little more enthusiastic about painting him.

My Corinthian hoplites are all clad in darker metallic armor, so Mandokus needed to be fancier. I used a couple of different gold and bronze colors for the armor. I think it's a good mix for a hero.

His shield is sort of the opposite to his armor, with the dark body of the shield and a lighter fancy symbol on it. Then there was the yellow for his cape and shield cloth. It took a lot of restraint o avoid doing a checkerboard pattern on the shield cloth, but I persevered.

Treeman and Clockwork Owls

I picked up a Dungeons and Lasers Deuslair preview pack of multipart plastic miniatures last summer and promptly assembled two of the big miniatures in the box. The third is still waiting for glue and a base. I managed to finish one of the miniatures back in January. Now it was time for the treeman, or, according to the D&L lore, it's supposed to be a tree golem. More on that later.

For reasons that will be made clear below, I found my two Crocodile Games clockwork owls and decided to base the one on a tree branch to be a possible companion to whatever Olympus mini might need him.

He can also act as an objective maker, that's why I used a 20mm round base. I decided to avoid metallic paints for both of these Owls (I previously painted one to use with sci-fi minis, so that one got metallic paints) and tried to do slightly NMM. I'm not sure how the NMM came out, but I think he looks okay. Here we've got the Clockwork Owl with Iomeda, Demigoddess of Hephaestus, and an Amazon Spearwoman.

This treeman came with little guys on his back. I primed everything up and then decided that I really didn't like them. Some chopping and careful cutting took the little guys off. I used some plastic bits from some Warhammer dryad kits and a couple plastic sprue lengths that were carved to look more like branches.

He needed something more, that's when I decided on the clockwork owl. There was a flirtation with magnetizing the owl, but I decided it would be best to just glue the owl down. This addition made me think that the treeman could be used in Olympus games as a random monster, or maybe a Titan, or a servant for a Demigod.

The paiintjob was pretty straightforward, a mix of different browns and some greens for the leafy area on the back and for his tentacles. The cape holding the big rock on his back almost got a symbol on it, but I deeded to keep it simple.

This Clockwork Owl benefitted from the one on the branch. I used almost the same colors for it. Both the treeman and the owl got aqua blue eyes, because magic.

The treeman with a couple of Titans, I'm not sure he'll be able to rank up with the Titan Slaves.

Perhaps the Treeman could be part of my whimsical and illegal Satyr Warband.

Perhaps the Treeman could be a stand-in for a Minotaur.

Maybe the Treeman is a construct of a Demigoddess of Hecate.

...or, perhaps more appropriately, a servant of a Demigoddess of Artemis.

Another addition to the Titan Warband

My Titan Warband is slowly growing (the last Titan Slave was painted in 2022?!?!). But this latest addition is finally here.

I could not find the head that was supposed to go with this guy. I thought I had a couple of spare heads, alas there were none. So I looked at alternates. I finally settled on a GW plastic Tyranid Termagant head. I think it looks pretty good.

The painting was a little fast but not at the comfort of my painting table (still not set up because of reasons). That said, I like the way this one turned out.

Here's the newest Titan Slave with a Reaper Bones "Titan" and my first metal Crocodile Games Titan.

And here we have the Titan Slave with some Olympus folks (above) and Ægyptus folks (below).

Demigoddess of Poseidon - Argyra

From the Wrath of Kings Kickstarter, one of the main reasons I backed it was this figure. I planned to use her as a Demigoddess of Poseidon. Now I have finally painted her up and she looks pretty good.

There are a couple of mold lines in the plastic that I couldn't neatly clean up. I figured that they were in mostly hidden areas, so I'm not too bothered by them.

Argyra is pretty big, so I put her on a 30mm base so she wasn't hanging too far over the edge. As I was painting, I made her backstory to help choose colors. I decided she was a daughter of Poseidon and a sea nymph. So her skin didn't need to be skin-colored. I thin the mix of blues came out nicely. Once I finally decided on the colors, it went pretty quickly.

Above, we have Argyra with a Demigod of Poseidon (aka "Surfer Dude") and Demigoddess of Artemis. Below, Argyra confronts a hydra.

Four More Satyrs

A mix of brown and green fur on these last (for now) Satyrs.

For this group, I tried to use the same colors across all four of them. They were quick and dirty, but I think they came out pretty good.

This brings my total number of Satyrs up to 21 (including musicians and champions/heroes, but minus the one who is missing). I think I need to get some more to pad out the units, and because they were pretty fun to paint.

A little blurry, but these are the mostly brown-fur led by the swigging hero and with a "Catyr" musician.

The previously painted guys who got sand and flock on the bases got a dark brown wash to more closely match the newer ones with homemade texture paste on the base.

These are the mainly green-fur guys led by the littlest Satyr and with the female musician.

I really like how the whole Satyr Host (is that the right term for several Satyrs?) look together. I'm tempted to come up with some Satyr Skirmish game to use them in.
