Aegyptus April 2026- Dark Fable Physician and Whisper of Nepthys

It's Ægyptus April and I actually managed to get a couple Ægyptians painted up! These are both from one of the many Dark Fable crowd funding campaigns I bought into far too heavily, but I think they were worth it.

First up is the Physician, or perhaps he's an Alchemist. I love the little spoon he's got. I tried to make his medicines look bright and exciting.

For his wig, I wanted to do something strikingly different from the norm, so a couple layers of different oranges were used. I'm pretty pleased with how he turned out. I'm glad I forced myself to focus on him.

Next is a Priestess of some sort. While I was finishing her, I came up with a specific use for her in Ankhara, City of the Dead Skirmishes. It's still a work in progress, but she will be a type of undead- a "Whisper of Nepthys" or maybe a "Shadow of Nepthys," something to do with Nepthys. I'm not sure if she should just be a single entity, or a class of wandering undead in the necropolis.

I'm really happy with the green of her dress, it stalled out for quite some time, but when I started working on the Phsician again it all came together for her. She's sculpted by a different sculptor than most of the rest of the range, but I think she fits in well to the civilians of Ægyptus.

Dark Fable Egyptian Eunuch Guards

A long time ago (10 years!? Come on!), I painted up my first two Dark Fable Eunuch Guards. Now there are four more done. Also, I finally went back and cleaned up the first 2 a little. The new ones got a pretty quick and dirty paintjob to get them finished.

Below are those first two, slightly updated, spearmen.

And here are the two newly painted spears.

A leader/hero with his fancy axe/Chopper thing. The bottom of the shaft was really thin and didn't reach the base, so I sculpted the little ball. It looks pretty okay.

Another leader/hero with two swords (maybe a sword and dagger).

And here we have the current "unit" of eunuchs. I have several more so they might actually end up being enough for a unit of 10 to 12. Or they may just serve as special figures for Scenarios and skirmish. I know a couple of the duplicates will be getting headswaps to make them more Aegyptus.

Now a couple of size comparison shots. Above we've got some Crocodile Games figures (Heru spearman conversion, Queen of the Crocs, and a Crocodiliopolis spearman.) Below, a couple with the Forge of Ice Sleepy Sentries.

Pharaonic Family

I've made several attempts, the last three years or so, to complete these Dark Fable miniatures because it's the royal family. Now they're finished and they turned out okay. I don't usually paint the eyes on figures anymore, and with these pictures I realized the daughter especially looks a little odd. I will probably be revisiting the hole family to see what I can do.

First we've got the eldest son with his fancy kopesh. He's probably not as good with it as he thinks he is.

Next up are the little ones. They were actually the first finished minis from this group. The daughter's dress with the "design" is maybe my favorite of the family.

We move on to the Pharoah himself. But is he really the one in charge?

Finally we have the Queen. I almost finished painting her on her own several times, but I was able to hold off until the rest of the family was closer to complete. I had thought about doing some hieroglyphics on her skin or dress, but decided against it.

Caravan Leader and Beast Handler

Back to the Okroi Caravan with two more Dark Fable miniatures.

First we've got the Beast Handler with his whip. This guy is the most recent "found" member of the caravan, as I was looking through my Dark Fable miniatures hoard.

This guy has been partially painted since the caravan project became a project. The first part of him that came together was his zebraskin cape, it just seemed like the right choice. I thought of him as a former bandit gone mostly legit. I figured the two ladies in the caravan crew are his daughters and the Nubian guy was his old partner. None of them have names yet, but I'm leaning toward this guy being Carnac.

There are 4 more Okroi left to paint from the original plan, but I'm always looking for more things/people to add. Below is the current state of the caravan, 16" from lead ram to those bringing up the rear.

Mummy Kidnapping

This figure has been assembled and primed almost since it arrived from one of the Dark Fable Miniatures campaigns. But now this fearsome mummy and his unconscious hostage have finally been completed.

It was really just a simple rather quick paintjob once I focused on it. I think it turned out pretty good. The floor tiles are simply drawn on the base with a micron pen and then weathered the best I could.

Here we have the newest mummy alongside a few of the other Eater of the Dead miniatures I've painted (mostly Crocodile Games figures). I think he will most likely see use as a moving objective marker because a "save the damsel" objective sounds kinda fun.

Return to the Okroi Caravan Project

It's been some time since I worked on minis for the Okroi Caravan. It started with these two excellent miniatures from Forge of Ice. They spurred a search for more minis to man the caravan as well as a need for more of those delightful Okroi. Now there has finally been a return to focus on getting the caravan populated.

First up is another female caravaneer from Dark Fable. This lady has a spear that I added a plastic flag bit to help her stand out from the other spearwoman minis in the line. I almost forgot I added a plastic pouch bit to her back to help give her a more characterful look.

Then came this young Okroi from Forge of Ice.

And finally, for this batch, is another member of the caravaneers a Nubian adventurer. His banded armor is a little too subtly colored to show up well in the pictures but I like how he turned out.

Let's  take a look at the current state of the completed caravan figures.

Upcoming will be another Dark Fable caravaneer and four Okroi pack animals. There should probably be even more members- I need to go through some boxes of minis to see what else might fit.
